Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch

The former Magistrate Court has been under the spotlight on a number of occasions in the past. In the 60s it is reported that Joe Orton the short lived yet prolific author and English playwright was charged at the court house for stealing books from Islington library. Around the same time apparently, the Kray Twins were charged right here in the courtroom for demanding money with menaces. As well as holding and sentencing notorious criminals the police station also held Eric Arthur Blair author of “1984” and “Animal farm” better known as George Orwell.

Now, the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch couples the grandeur of a Grade II listed Baroque style building, with a laid-back personalised service, forming the perfect alchemy.
